MateraStation

Matera Station is a landmark project focused on the aesthetic and functional revitalization of the FAL railway station at Matera Centrale, conceived by Stefano Boeri Architetti. The goal is to restore the station’s role as a strategic urban reference point, enriching it both from an infrastructural and an identity perspective for the “City of Sassi.”

The architectural project is characterized by an integrated approach that combines contemporary aesthetics with urban functionality, transforming the station into a fully accessible covered square, in harmony with the surrounding historic fabric.

For the ventilated façade, the GammaStone Natural Air system was used, employing locally sourced Pietra di Trani with a polished finish. This choice emphasizes the use of contextual materials, providing elegance and visual depth through the delicate three-dimensional veining of the stone, applied from the base to the top of the structure.
